    There was once a town in the heart of America where all life seemed to live in harmony with its surroundings.The town lay in the midst of a checkerboard of prosperous farms，with fields of grain and hillsides of orchards where，in spring，white clouds of bloom drifted above the green fields.In autumn，oak and maple and birch set up a blaze of color that flamed and flickered across a backdrop of pines.Then foxes barked in the hills and deer silently crossed the fields，half hidden in the mists of the fall mornings.

    从前在美国的中部有个城镇，那里的一切生命似乎都和周围的环境和谐相处。各处农场欣欣向荣，纵横交错，城镇位于中心地带，遍地粮田，山腰果树成林，春天绿油油的田野上飘过一片片茂盛的景象。秋天橡树、枫树、桦树染上耀眼的秋色，如同火焰一般闪烁不已，穿过后面的一片松林，山间狐狸叫声可闻，小鹿静静地走过一块块田野，隐没在秋日清晨的薄雾中。
