The outstanding English Department is a group of dedicated teachers with a variety of expertise and experience, who consistently achieve excellent examination results. Working collaboratively is what we do best; this exciting opportunity to develop an educational edition of Lord of the Flies has been an honour and it has been a privilege to be part of English cultural history. If ever a group of teachers were so humbled, it is us. Not only do we get to work with each other on a daily basis but we have been able to translate our teamwork and inspirational spirit into print by working on a timeless classic. We have provided a variety of creative tasks which will enable students to explore the complexities of language, structure and form as well as characters, themes, motifs and symbols in more detail. And, most importantly, we hope you enjoy using this edition of the novel.
Elâ Tűrker-Glodowska has led the Lord of the Flies educational edition project since its inception and has been responsible for co-ordinating and inspiring the creativity of the vibrant and dynamic Loxford English Department. They are: Jenny Baldwin, Philip Bayley, Katie Burningham, Francesca Hand, Lucy Hyams, Dani Kelly, Nicola Kober, Janette Price, Michael Rowley, Ciara Ryan, Yasmin Sadek, Frances Steel, Russ Tannahill, Kate Thackray, Elâ Tűrker-Glodowska and Olivia Walker.
With special thanks to Louise Kanolik for her unfaltering positivity and dedication to the project, our headteacher Anita Johnson for her continued support and belief, and Richard Steel and Pawel Glodowski for their patient proofreading and invaluable wisdom.
