James Knowlson is the author of the authorised biography of Samuel Beckett (Damned to Fame, Bloomsbury, 1996). Founder of the Beckett Archive at Reading and of the Beckett International Foundation, he is General Editor of The Theatrical Notebooks of Samuel Beckett (Faber, 1992–1999) and editor of volume IV (Krapp's Last Tape) and (with Dougald McMillan) volume I (Waiting for Godot). He is also editor of a bilingual edition of Happy Days/Oh les beaux jours (Faber, 1978) and (with Elizabeth Knowlson) Beckett Remembering, Remembering Beckett (Bloomsbury, 2006).
